Moral Concept of Work

Today I have been asked to answer a powerful and challenging question, which helped me to reflect myself and my inner values. The task is to finish this sentence: I go to work every day because I would like to … At first sight, I was giving obvious answers you would expect from an exam at university like “… to make our clients happy” or “… to have fun at work” – of course we do – but while sitting there and digging deeper and deeper and trying to answer it from a personal perspective regarding my values I elicited some extraordinary statements from myself, which I would like to share with you.

Answering this question is highly personal and I am pleased to share this with you. In my viewpoint, while sharing the same personal value with employees, clients, partner, friends and family, it is possible to create harmony and a culture where everybody can contribute him/herself and live his/her passion.

These are my answers:

I go to work every day because I would like to ...

  • Work with interesting and motivated people to create something meaningful
  • Develop myself through collaboration with other people and to learn new things
  • Look back in a few years and be proud about what we have reached
  • Prove to myself that I have understood how a company must be managed nowadays and that with the right people success will come
  • Have fun every day and that we do not talk about «having to work» but «following our passion»
  • Share my knowledge with others and help people find their passion and enthusiasm
  • Creating work that is appreciated and that adds value for our clients

Have you already completed the sentence for yourself? What is your Moral Concept of Work? Try and share your thoughts.
